This memorial was established as a national park in 1916, and designated as a National Historical site in 1959. The memorial building houses a cabin similar to the one Abraham Lincoln was born in. 56 steps, one for every year representing his life, lead up to the memorial.Beginning February 12, 2008, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site will host the starting event for the nation's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's life.
